$30 can help provide free diabetic home test kit to expectant mothers

$62 can train a community volunteer to provide health support for expectant mothers.

$76 can train a mother–to–mother support group leader to help women in her community.

$115 can provide a bicycle for a community health worker to help reach remote villages.

$410 can train a health worker, such as a doctor, nurse, midwife or nutritionist.

$15,000 can provide a refurbished ultrasound machine for a community

 

Supporting AWC programs/projects allows AWC to have a presence at the community level, and fosters partnerships to deliver effective outreach programs and promotion of messages in a culturally competent manner.

 

The support will enable AWC to carry out its laudable programs of developing the type of profile that meets the criteria for international partnerships which will in turn give AWC the financial freedom to award mini grants and competitive awards to community faith-based organizations, women serving in institutions at all educational levels, as well as small health education and smaller non-profit organizations.

About AWC: Arewa Women Commission is a nonprofit organization providing support to women in Northern Nigeria through conferences, programs/projects, seminars, and workshops. AWC links the important roles of the international bodies in helping develop, deliver, and evaluate culturally and socially competent programs and services to address the growing needs of women in Northern Nigeria.

 

Where Are The Northern NGOs?

Our generation must do more to get northern Nigeria youths into the spirit of activism to promote collective intelligence otherwise casual mind is infectious and mass produces ignoramuses –Miriam Ikunaiye

Lack of representation has robbed the North its national cake, diminished its international masa and it is threatening its heavenly danwake. If you are in doubt about this sad but realistic observation check the international data on the followings: most vulnerable population in Nigeria, least educated, disproportionately poorer and most likely to die from preventable diseases and prevalent maternal and infant mortality rate. Hence, I am tired of clapping with one hand. As Northern Nigerian entity with current maternal health crisis; we are suppose to be at advantage in harnessing the billions of dollars for Global Health Initiatives to serve our people. But where are the Northern NGOs?

 

 

1. Acknowledging the powerful women who are community leaders and survivors of disparate conditions; and

2. Building on the successful models of their struggles and the innate sense of survival that exists within all northern women populations

3. Building on the knowledge gained in their struggles and uncovering the distinct issues that women face daily as they carry out their activism for the community or communities they serve

4. Addressing Disparities, Acknowledging Resilience, Providing Actions for Success to women
